Personality :

 + Strong Willed || + Good-Natured || + Resourceful || Clumsy || Forgetful || Naive || - Gullible || - Shortsighted

Strong Willed - Growing up, Cain frequently got in trouble for arguing with neighbors, running off, getting in trouble, etc., This wasn't because he was a bad kid necessarily, but because as soon as someone said he couldn't do something, Cain was more than ready to prove them wrong. To a certain degree, his attitude was pretty entertaining. His mom says it's because he was born in the year of the tiger, though Cain is always ready to brag that fact. This has led to some conflicts with him and authority figures, a force he's never gotten along with.

Good Natured - Despite his attitude problems, that doesn't mean what he does is meant to harm anyone...at least to himself. Cain, before he started at Hogwarts, was used to watching his mother help other refugees. This didn't instill in him any saintly mindset, but it did teach him about common decency. If anyone asks him for help, Cain is ready and willing to.

Resourceful - Also learning from his parents, Cain can make good of any situation given to him. Being forgetful enough already, Cain's ability to at least figure out a solution definitely comes in handy. The prime example of this, so far, has been his ingenious idea to use Sir Octagalot as a paper weight and page turner.

Clumsy - Cain is prone to tripping on his robe. Outside of his robe, he is prone to running into pillars and forgetting to take an extra step down stairs. This can be attributed to his absentmindedness or really even his bad eyesight, but either way, he is a frequent visitor to the Hospital Wing.

Forgetful - There are frankly too many things to remember for Cain. It's hard enough keeping track of where he put what, but Cain is especially bad with remembering names. He can remember a face, definitely, but most of the time, unless a name stands out especially, he will not for the life of him be able to remember anyone's name. The only thing he forgets more often is where he last left Sir Octagalot, though that is also usually a matter of where Sir Octagalot managed to crawl to.

Naive - Cain is naive to the degree that children are allowed to be. His understanding of the Wizarding Wars and Witch Trials are shallow at best. The most he understands from the current situation is that they would have had to leave China sooner or later. His understanding of what is "right" and "wrong" only extends as far as his mother's lessons.

Gullible - Easily fooled. Very, very, easily fooled. Cain is extremely trusting, and consequently, will believe mostly anything anyone tells him, that is, unless he thinks otherwise. If that is the case, then Cain is always ready to refute the information. In any other case, Cain will accept the knowledge as fact. He could be convinced of anything from changed class schedules to changed house passwords.

Shortsighted - Cain lacks the ability to think of anything besides the immediate future. Despite his resourcefulness, his mind is always stuck in the now. There is no future planning going on as of yet, but then again, what else would an 11 year old think of? He isn't pondering the great mysteries of magic or the increasingly delicate state of the wizarding world-- He's trying to figure out how to get the chocolate stain out of his robe.

History :

Cain Sun, birth name Sun An Chun, was born in China to Elise Ma and Sun Yi Sen. They were well established in China with his father working a muggle law firm in China and his mother working various magic shops, though mostly dealing in potions. They were comfortably middle class, and despite conflicts with their extended family, they were content. Cain was very young when news of the growing conflicts reached them. They were very uninvolved with politics in the magical world, though when they heard the news, it was worrying.

For awhile, it only seemed as if it were the usual conflicts. They knew how muggles were with the magic--they already had experience with their own families in that regard--but the growing hostility was a sign. If the two of them were young and unattached to their position in life, then they would have swept the conflicts under the carpet with no need to worry, but that wasn't the case. They still remembered stories about the Dark Lords and the dangers of muggles--and they had Cain. With a young child, the couple didn't want to risk anything.

Relocating was not as abrupt as it could have been. China was still reasonably safe, though the conflicts put Elise on edge. She was the one who pushed for the move, and suggested England. She had her own experiences living on the edge of the muggle world and the dangers of it. Keeping her son safe was her only concern now. Any thoughts on remaining with her family in China were replaced by the best options for Cain. Of course, Cain was still young when they moved. He didn't understand much, and the only reason Elise offered him was that it was for business reasons. It was just easier for his father to conduct any business without his family in the country. The logic didn't exactly line up to Cain, but he didn't exactly mind. He was still too young to be too attached to China, and once they left, it was sort of exciting.

That was, until they got there. The most upsetting part of the move was his name. Cain didn't understand why they needed English names, and live in an English house. He didn't know England would be so different from home, and he didn't like the way his new name rolled off his tongue. What upset him the most? What about his tortoise? If Cain needed a new English name in England, then of course, so wouldn't Octagalot? His mother's solution was the best of course. She told him about the knights and Queens they had there. She didn't mention the ministers or Aurors, or else Octagalot would have had a very different name. No, instead, Cain dubbed his tortoise Sir Octagalot.

This is what his new life was like, a series of compromises and explanations from his mother. Cain didn't ask many questions, after all, he trusted his mother. She may have been flighty and always worried about her family and her husband, but she always kept Cain in his best interest. Hogwarts was the most logical choice. She couldn't keep him safe on her own, as much as she wanted to, she couldn't. Yi Sen couldn't stay home and what if--the headlines of murdered magical children plagued her thoughts. Hogwarts was always the most logical choice.

Cain is starting his first year off without his mother...but at least he has his Knight to help him.

Opinion on Threat of Muggle World: Cain has yet to see it as a threat. He hasn't seen the headlines or found out about any of the dangers. There are whisperings in corridors about new headlines and crimes, so Cain has been skeptical as of late. In the safety of Hogwarts, Cain still believes he has nothing to fear.

Family :

- Elise Ma || Half-blood || Mother - From a more rural area of China, Elise is Cain's current guardian. Her family still remains in China, though she is very worried for their safety there, since the family is anticipating further conflicts. For now, she balances caring for Cain while his father is usually away on business. While Cain's at school, Elise works in Hogsmeade, helping other families from China who have recently relocated. She prefers her English name over her Chinese name because it gives her some peace of mind that with an English name, the conflicts in China wouldn't follow them there.

- Sun Yi Sen || Muggleborn || Father - Estranged from his family, Yi Sen's family name still carries some weight in the muggle world. They are a well-known business family, with roots going back dynasties, though Yi Sen's pursuit of the magical world set him aside as an outsider. Despite this, Yi Sen wishes he could have given Cain the large family in their home country that he himself grew up with. Currently, he travels back and forth between England and China, balancing his time between his family and his business in China. The conflicts there are hindering to his business, but he has yet to move his business to England and reorganize there. He prefers his Chinese name because it is easier to conduct business with back in China.

Extra :

- Attempted to join Frog choir (Was unaware of the fact that tortoises are unable to sing)
- Sir Octagalot is actually a Lady Octagalot, but Cain hasn't learned the distinction between genders when it comes to formal titles like that
- Named Sir Octagalot because he thought his back had a lot of octagons. He has since learned they are actually pentagons
- Has trouble tying his tie still, so he usually asks an upperclassman for help
- Prone to staining his robes
- Smuggles strawberries out of cooking to feed to Sir Octagalot
- Very bad eyesight, but he forgets to bring his glasses to class usually
